September 20 - Much Prayed for Rain!

This morning we woke up to the best sound on earth, the sound of a soaking rain. We went to take pictures of the rain. By the time we woke up there was about 2'' of rain out the back door. The only problem was we had not prepared our fields for rain as the saying goes. We had remodeled the garage into the boys room a couple of years back. We knew that if the water was at a certain point that it would flood the boys room. But that had to be about three inches all over out side patio. Today we reached that point. We had some help though, Thank God! Our neighbor had his tractor to help move water and we also had some friends over for a sleepover.

Before we found the problem.

Shea and his friend Tyler trying to move water away from the boys room.

Janessa and Daddy were pushing water through a trench into the neighbors yard.

These two turned shoving water into a race.

Tyler's little brother Nate is watching the race.

Because we live in west Texas, we only had one rain coat. So the rest of us used big trash bags.

Inside the house.

Mamma chicken and her babies were brought inside because they were soaked. Unfortunately we lost two in this storm.

Mr. and Mrs. Neufeld had asked us to take care of the girls this afternoon earlier this week. So they were there as well. It certainly was an adventurous day.

Everyone's worn out from moving water.
Later the kids build a fort using living room furniture.

Kacie's Favorite doll.

To go do chores everyone had on makeshift raincoats.
By lunch time the water was no longer going into the room. And there was not much water damage. We were truly blessed. And the land is loving it.

September 16 - St. Patrick's Day in September?

The Patrick girls came over today while their parents went up to Lubbock. We haven't had them over in quite some time. They had never seen any of the "new babies"; Banner, Jenny, the kittens, the chickens. or the turkeys. They got to see them all...and a few more, but more on that in a bit. The girls hadn't ridden since the last time they were over at our house, but they didn't lose any of their skill. Right away we went on a ride with Rusty, Libby and Banner, and Pepper.
Sydney and her matching horses.

Shea is doing an quick fix on Syd's reigns.

Banner getting left behind...Again.

Abby and Grace riding Rusty.

Kacy on Pepper.

Now Banner wants to follow.

It's never a good sign to see a boy...with a horse whip...running....after the horses.

Our neighbor took the wet day as a opportunity to burn his trash. Shea thought it was a beautiful picture.

The cloud formations were changing all the time.

Gabe's mamma cat was bred again, but we had no idea when. She was huge so we knew that time was getting close. Well when we went to go check on the cat she had just finished having 4 beautiful kittens. 3 females and 1 male. The Patricks named them. The 3 females were Thunder (Sydney's name, she named it that because the mamma is named Raincloud); Emmie named her's Ladybug (don't ask me why); Gracie named her's Beetle (that is her nick-name); Abby named the male Freddie for no apparent reason.
